IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Raymond
Klein
December 6, 1929 – April 26, 2025
Raymond Klein, age 95, of Eugene, Oregon, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2025. He was born on December 6, 1929, in Portland, Oregon, to Julius and Johanna Klein-Rolof, who immigrated from Russia and Poland. Raymond grew up in Lamont, Alberta, Canada, before returning to Oregon for his studies.
In 1957, he graduated from Lane Community College’s Engineering and Machinist Training Program. He began his career at IRECO Industries as an apprentice machinist, where he spent many years in leadership roles, including middle management, Quality Control Manager, and Production Manager. He later worked with Western Irrigation for five years, and finished his career at ATLAS Cylinders/Parker-Hannifin, where he retired after 14 years in management. He was especially proud of mentoring and training countless apprentices and colleagues who went on to thrive in their own careers, many of whom remained lifelong friends. From 1951 to 1953, Raymond served with distinction in the U.S. Army as a PFC, stationed in Okinawa as a motor pool driver and technician, maintaining buses, jeeps, trucks, cars, and even PT cruisers.
Raymond was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 46 years, Nancy (Babb) Klein; his parents, Julius and Johanna; and his brothers Clarence and James. He is survived by his sons Randy and Brett Klein; his siblings James, Roma, Audrey, Ruth, and Joan; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
A lifelong community volunteer, Raymond was a 67-year member of the Moose Lodge, a 60+ year member and legacy honoree of the Very Little Theatre, and a 30+ year member of the Eugene Rhododendron Society. He also served 12 years on the Emerald Credit Union Board of Directors and was active with the YMCA Adventure Guides, Boy Scouts, River Road Park programs, the Campbell Center, and Solvang Independent Living. His love of planning events, telling stories, and sharing laughter left a lasting mark on his community. Raymond loved the outdoors—camping, fishing, hunting, and water-skiing with family and friends. He also enjoyed ballroom dancing with Nancy at the Moose Lodge and hosting lively home dance parties. Adventures took him to Crater Lake, the Oregon Coast, national parks, historic forts, and U of O games, always alongside family and friends he cherished.
A graveside memorial service with Army Honor Guard will be held on Friday, September 5, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Rest-Haven Memorial Park, 39000 Willamette St., Eugene, OR. The service will carry the theme “A Hui Hou” (“Until we meet again”), and attendees are encouraged to wear Hawaiian shirts, leis, or festive attire in celebration of Raymond’s joyful spirit. A celebration of life will follow in North Eugene.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to River Road Park Senior Services or any local charity that supports active and engaged seniors. Raymond lived a full, generous, and joyful life. He will be remembered for his humor, kindness, and commitment to others. As one of his favorite quotes reminds us: “The most important thing is, even when we’re apart, I’ll always be with you.” – Winnie the Poo
