IN LOVING MEMORY OF JAMES CALVIN SCHOCK

James Calvin Schock, age 90, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2026, in Eugene, Oregon, surrounded by his family and loved ones.

Born on November 10, 1935, in Aberdeen, South Dakota, James lived a life rooted in faith, service, craftsmanship, music, and devotion to his family.

A faithful Lutheran throughout his life, James found strength and meaning in his faith. He proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, answering a call to serve his country.

James continued his education at Oregon State University, where he earned his master's degree in woodworking. He went on to dedicate 35 years of his life to the 4J School District in Eugene, teaching woodshop and metal shop at Madison Junior High School. In addition to teaching, he coached basketball, sharing his knowledge, encouragement, and love of the game with his students.

A gifted craftsman, James had a remarkable talent for woodworking. He lovingly handcrafted every piece of furniture in his family's home, leaving behind lasting reminders of his skill, patience, and dedication. His work was more than furniture; it was a part of the home and a legacy his family will continue to treasure.

Music was another important part of James's life. For 50 years, he was a proud member of the Cascade Chorus in Eugene, Oregon, participating in the tradition of barbershop singing and the fellowship it brought. Through his years of teaching, music, craftsmanship, and faith, James built connections and memories that will live on in those who knew him.

On September 3, 1960, James married Sharon Ann Shillman. They shared many years together until her passing on February 1, 2000.

James was preceded in death by his father, his mother, and his beloved wife, Sharon.

He is survived by his loving daughter, Michelle; his son, Michael; his only sister, Florence; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many beloved extended family members.

James leaves behind a legacy of faith, dedication, creativity, and love. He will be remembered not only for the years he gave to his students and community, but also for the care he put into everything he made and the lasting place he holds in the hearts of his family and friends.
