Arthur Douglas
Kelley
May 11, 1939 – April 28, 2026
Arthur Douglas “Doug” Kelley, CW3 (Ret.)
May 11, 1939 – April 28, 2026
Arthur Douglas “Doug” Kelley, 86, of Elmira, Oregon, passed away on April 28, 2026 in Eugene, Oregon.
Doug was born on May 11, 1939, in Boise, Idaho to William and Gladys Kelley. At a young age, he answered the call to serve his country, joining the National Reserve in 1956. He worked as an optician before being called to serve in the Vietnam War, as a helicopter pilot. A strong and determined man, Doug faced life with resilience and courage, qualities that carried him through both his military service and the years beyond. Following his service in Vietnam, he continued his military career as a pilot in the U.S. Army, attaining the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 3, until his retirement in 1977.
After his military service, Doug continued doing what he loved most—flying. He worked as a helicopter pilot for Henderson Aviation, where he flew a variety of missions. Notably, he flew for KATU during the events surrounding the Mount St. Helens eruption, and later supported the Forestry Service in the aftermath.
Doug will be remembered for his strength, determination, and quick wit—he was a true jokester who loved to make people laugh. He enjoyed spending time with family, fishing, hunting, bowling, and he was active in his church community, especially enjoying fellowship at men’s breakfasts.
He is survived by his loving wife, Donna Kelley; his children, Leisa Bates and her husband David Bates, Laura Cain and her husband John Cain, and his son Daniel Kelley; as well as 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Gladys Kelley; his sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Bill Jones; his nephew, Dennis Jones and other precious family members.
A viewing will be held on Friday, May 8th from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Rest-Haven Memorial Park Funeral Home in Eugene, Oregon. Doug will be laid to rest with Military Honors in Boise, Idaho.
“But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”—
Isaiah 40:31
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those who knew and loved him.
