Funeral services will be held Thursday in Eugene for Alfred J. Morgan, a former Springfield High School principal, who died Tuesday at a Portland convalescent hospital. He was 80 years old.
He was born in Denmark on July 12, 1885, and moved to the United States with his family four years later. Morgan was raised in Davenport, Wash., and graduated in 1911 from Washington State College.
A school teacher in Idaho and Montana, he moved to Springfield in 1921, taught in high school here and later became principal of Springfield High School. Morgan retired as principal in 1930 and moved to Eugene.
His first wife, Helen Koffin, whom he married in 1917, died in 1936. In 1954 he married Lillie Doering.
He was a member of Liberty Lodge, No. 171, AF&AM, Springfield; Hillah Shrine Temple, Ashland; the Eugene Scottish Rite Shrine; the Eugene Shrine Club; and the First Methodist Church of Eugene.
Morgan is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Paul Wright, Houston, Tex., and Mrs. Bruce Keller, Palo Alto, Calif.; a son, Gerald Morgan, Portland; a sister, Clara Carpenter, Davenport, Wash.; four brothers, Carl Morgan, Seattle, Wash.; Victor Morgan, Omak, Wash.; Raymond Morgan, Davenport, Wash.; and Dr. Walter Morgan, Kent, Wash.
Services will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at England Funeral Home, Eugene, with the Liberty Lodge, Springfield, in charge of Masonic rites. Interment will follow at Rest-Haven Memorial Park, Eugene.
